JOALI BEING

Overview
|
Accommodation
Summary
JOALI BEING is the world's first wellbeing island of its kind — a purpose-built transformative wellness retreat on the secluded island of Bodufushi in Raa Atoll. It is the sister property to the award-winning JOALI Maldives, just 15 minutes away by boat, and approximately 45 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport (Malé), with guests welcomed at the JOALI private lounge before departure.

The resort is built around Four Pillars — Mind, Skin, Microbiome and Energy — developed with Professor Gerry Bodeker of Oxford, a Harvard-trained expert in integrative medicine and wellness. Every stay begins with an in-depth consultation and Integrative Lifestyle Assessment, producing a fully personalised programme ranging from five nights to three weeks, guided by an in-house team of naturopaths, therapists, movement experts and Ayurvedic doctors.

Accommodation

JOALI BEING has 68 villas placed across the island and overwater. The smallest — the Ocean Pool Villa — begins at 260sqm with an ocean-facing deck and private pool, while the largest, the Four-Bedroom Private Wellbeing Ocean Pool Residence at 1,700sqm, sits overwater with uninterrupted Indian Ocean views, its own infinity pool, a dedicated wellbeing room and a private movement zone. All villas feature a customised Wellbeing Bar stocked with teas, tonics and healthy provisions, a selection of meditative balancing instruments, and a personal butler known as a Jadugar — "skilled magician" in Dhivehi. Villa categories include Beach Pool Villas, Ocean Pool Villas, Wellness Beach Pool Villas with their own treatment rooms, and two multi-bedroom residences suitable for families or groups.

Restaurants & Bars

Dining at JOALI BEING is overseen by the island's nutritionists, offering a balance of healthy and indulgent options:

FLOW

— The main restaurant with three distinct kitchens under one roof: Su, a live-fire and robata grill; Plantae, devoted to plant-based cuisine; and B'Well, serving nutritionally balanced menus aligned with guest wellbeing programmes

Rakuzen Teppanyaki

— Overwater teppanyaki and robatayaki dining in an intimate teppan room

Yutori

— Overwater Japanese restaurant showcasing premium cuts of wagyu, fresh seafood and sashimi, with ocean views

MOJO

— Poolside bar and grill for casual all-day dining and cocktails

SAI

— A dedicated tea house for matcha, specialty teas, coffee and light bites

Turtle Treehouse

— An elevated treehouse bar hidden among the canopy, serving sundowners with views over the island

Wellness

The wellness offering at JOALI BEING is the core of the experience, with facilities and programmes designed around the Four Pillars:

Areka

— A two-storey wellness centre housing 39 treatment rooms, including couple's suites, wet treatment rooms, and specialist therapy spaces

KAASHI

— A hydrotherapy sanctuary featuring a Banya steam room, Watsu therapy pool (warm-water assisted stretching), an Aufguss sauna with essential oil infusions, Turkish Hammam, and experience showers

CORE

— A 16-metre movement studio with floor-to-ceiling ocean views for yoga, pilates, meditation, dance and group classes

AKTAR

— Herbology and aromatherapy apothecary, led by the resident herbologist, offering one-to-one consultations where custom synergetic blends and natural cosmetics are created

Sound Discovery Path

— A winding trail through the palm trees featuring nine sculptural instruments, from gongs to xylophones, designed for meditative exploration

SEDA

— A dedicated yoga and meditation pavilion set within the island's wild forest

LOTUS

— An overwater space for group wellness classes, ceremonies and full-moon circles

Cryotherapy chamber and Watsu pool

— Available as part of personalised treatment schedules

Wellbeing programmes target specific goals: strength and vitality, mental clarity, hormonal balance, women's health, digestive and weight rebalancing, restful sleep, and movement and alignment. Each programme is built from the initial assessment and adjusted throughout the stay.

Facilities & Activities

Art House

— A creative space led by an internationally recognised Maldivian artist, offering workshops in painting, textile art and local craft techniques

Marine Centre

— Guided snorkelling across the house reef and nearby sites, plus educational sessions on marine conservation

Okyanus

— Coral reef restoration project where guests can participate in reef propagation and monitoring alongside the marine biology team

Tennis and Padel

— Two floodlit courts with a resident coach available for lessons and match play

Boutique

— Curated retail space carrying wellness products, JOALI-branded items, and locally crafted goods

Sustainability

JOALI BEING holds EarthCheck Silver Certification for sustainability. On-island infrastructure includes a desalination water bottling plant, rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling systems, a glass crusher and recycler, a 1,750-litre food waste composter, plant waste shredder for fertiliser, and a biological wastewater treatment plant. The brand collaborates with local communities on tree re-plantation initiatives and carbon offsets for all guest stays.
