Our Opinion

Soneva Secret arrived on the scene in early 2024 and has quickly established itself as something genuinely different in the Maldives. With only 14 villas, it is deliberately intimate, and the inclusion of the Maldives' first floating villa adds a unique point of interest. Each villa is serviced by a personal three-person team, which allows for a level of personalisation that few resorts can match.

We have not yet visited, but the early indications are promising. The concept of 14 chefs from 14 different countries, each bringing their own culinary expertise to a single villa's dining experience, suggests a food offering that is both ambitious and genuinely personal. For those who value privacy, space and the Soneva philosophy of intelligent luxury, this is a resort well worth watching.

The resort closes annually in June for maintenance.

Summary

Soneva Secret sits within the Haa Dhaalu Atoll, on the remote island of Dhipparufushi at the westernmost edge of the Maldives. It is the only resort in this atoll, offering a genuinely secluded setting.

The resort comprises just 14 villas, split between overwater and island locations. Guests can choose from lagoon villas accessed by boat or the Maldives' first floating villa, alongside beachfront options with direct access to the sand and lagoon. Each villa comes with a personal team of three: a Barefoot Guardian, a Barefoot Assistant and a dedicated chef, all focused on delivering a fully personalised experience.

Dining is a standout feature. Each of the 14 villas has its own chef, hailing from a different country and specialising in their native cuisine, allowing guests to enjoy bespoke menus tailored to their tastes. The resort also invites indulgence in its complimentary chocolate, ice cream and cheese and charcuterie rooms.
