Baglioni Resort Maldives

Overview
Our Opinion
Baglioni Resort Maldives opened in 2019 on the island of Maagau in Dhaalu Atoll, offering a characterful mix of Italian hospitality and easy-going island life.

The island itself is immediately striking — lush, mature vegetation, soft white sands and a natural beauty that feels unforced. Accommodation is elegant and understated, with both beach and overwater villas that feel spacious without being ostentatious. The overwater villas are particularly well done, with direct lagoon access and an indoor-outdoor layout that makes the most of the setting.

The house reef here is a genuine standout. It is easily accessible from the beach and offers excellent snorkelling, with lively coral, plenty of fish life, and regular appearances from reef sharks and larger species. Both sides of the island offer something different, making it well worth exploring.

Dining is one of the resort's strong suits, with a clear Italian thread running through the offering. La Limonaia serves refined, well-executed Italian cuisine, while Yama offers Japanese overwater dining with a contrasting atmosphere. The team are clearly committed to improving the food offering, and it shows. The wine list is compact but thoughtfully chosen, with some well-priced premium bottles worth investigating.

Service throughout was consistently warm and attentive, delivering hospitality that feels genuine rather than rehearsed. The team make a real effort to create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Facilities include a spa, gym, tennis court and a small kids' club, all well suited to the resort's scale. The feel is intimate rather than expansive, which suits those after a quieter island experience.

Baglioni is not chasing the extreme luxury market, but it delivers a beautifully balanced experience on a lovely island with excellent snorkelling and genuine Italian character. Highly recommended.

Note: the resort will close 1 Sep — 15 Nov 2026 and 26 Apr — 7 Aug 2027 for enhancement works.
