Constance Halaveli manages that rare trick of feeling genuinely luxurious without the price tag going quite as far as some of its peers — and we think that makes it exceptional value in its class.

All of the villas come with their own private plunge pool, right down to the 'entry-level' Water Villas, which is a lovely touch. The accommodation is finished to a very high standard throughout.

Service and dining are where Halaveli really shines. Jing restaurant consistently ranks among our favourite dining spots across the Indian Ocean, and the Constance group's Mauritian roots are evident in the quality and care that goes into the food and wine offering.

If the budget stretches to it, the Double Storey Beach Villas are genuinely spectacular — you won't leave disappointed.

Summary

Situated in the North Ari Atoll, Constance Halaveli occupies a classic 'D'-shaped island with an impressive, near-unbroken beach encircling the shoreline — two broad sweeps of sand at either tip are particularly generous. The sheltered lagoon is ideal for swimming and watersports, and the house reef is an easy swim from the beach, making for excellent snorkelling without needing a boat excursion.

Originally a modest 50-villa property with thatched coral-walled cottages popular with the Italian market, the resort was acquired by Constance Hotels after the 2004 tsunami and transformed into something far more ambitious. Today it comprises 86 villas across three categories: Water Villas, Beach Villas, and Double-Storey Beach Villas. Unusually for the Maldives, the Water Villas — arranged along an 800-metre jetty, the longest in the country — are the entry-level accommodation. A recent refurbishment of the Double-Storey Beach Villas has added a twin bedroom with a separate shower room on the upper floor, replacing what was previously a living area.

The dining offering reflects Constance's Mauritian heritage and commitment to gastronomy, with Jing restaurant standing out as one of the most accomplished dining experiences in the Indian Ocean. Diving in the Ari Atoll is among the finest in the Maldives, with renowned sites including two shark points and two thilas.
