Opened in late 2019, the InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort delivers a genuinely polished experience that lives up to its billing. The snorkelling stands out: easy beach access puts you straight into the water, and the house reef is excellent. With 81 spacious villas and residences spread across Beach, Lagoon and Overwater categories, there is plenty of choice for all types of traveller.

The dining scene is impressive too, with six restaurants covering a wide range of cuisines, complemented by a serene overwater spa, a well-equipped kids' club and a 5-star PADI dive centre. If outstanding food and great snorkelling are high on your list, this resort is well worth a closer look.

Situated in the Raa Atoll, the InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort occupies a beautiful private island just a short distance from the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The resort is 152 km north of Velana International Airport and is accessible via a 35-minute seaplane flight or by a 20-minute domestic flight followed by a 35-minute speedboat ride.

The lagoon here is rich with marine life, and manta rays and dolphins are frequent visitors. A 35-minute speedboat journey brings guests to Hanifaru Bay, one of the rare places on earth where whale sharks gather to mate and where you can swim among the largest known manta ray populations.
