Our Opinion

Mirihi was one of those places guests returned to year after year, and that tells you everything about what it was built on. The rebrand to V Villas under MGallery has given the island a fresh look, and while we haven't yet seen the transformation in person, the early signs are encouraging.

What hasn't changed are the things that made it special. The beach runs around two-thirds of the island, the house reef is excellent and easily accessed, and the location in the inner South Ari Atoll puts whale sharks, manta rays and some of the Maldives' best dive sites within easy reach all year. The Ocean Pro dive centre runs the Project Hope coral restoration programme, which is doing real work rehabilitating bleached reef areas.

The villas have been refreshed and the count now sits at 38: six beach, 30 overwater and two two-bedroom suites. It's a significant step up from the old Mirihi look, and we are looking forward to experiencing it first-hand later this year.

Dining remains a strength. Muraka over the water is a must-visit, and Dhonveli's soft sand floors and well-spaced tables make every meal feel unhurried. The Half Board Plus and Full Board Plus plans are solid options, covering drinks with meals in Dhonveli, throughout the day at Anba bar, soft drinks and beer in the minibar, and sundowner cocktails at Muraka.

Beyond the water, there are non-motorised water sports, a compact but well-equipped gym, and the Duniye spa. The management team is long-established and experienced, and the service stays warm and personal.

With only 38 keys and a loyal following that books ahead, securing a stay in high season takes some planning. The rebrand has only increased that demand.

Summary

V Villas Maldives at Mirihi sits on a private island roughly 350 metres long and 50 metres wide in the South Ari Atoll, surrounded by soft white sand and a lively house reef. Part of the MGallery Collection by Accor, it offers a barefoot-luxury experience that blends contemporary design with Maldivian character.

A 30-minute seaplane flight from Velana International Airport delivers guests to this secluded retreat, where peace and privacy are the defining notes.

Accommodation spans 38 villas, each designed for comfort and uninterrupted views. Overwater villas sit above the turquoise lagoon with spacious sun decks, while beach villas place guests just steps from the sand with open-air bathrooms and outdoor freshwater showers. Larger options include two-bedroom and multi-level residences with private pools, living areas, kitchenettes and wine coolers.

Dining takes in three venues. Dhonveli is the relaxed, beachfront main restaurant serving international and Maldivian-inspired dishes with sand floors and open-air seating. Muraka, set over the lagoon, offers a la carte dining famed for its sunset atmosphere, Maldivian lobster and premium Wagyu. AKOYA Sea Lounge is the social hub, with cocktails, light bites and a rum collection exceeding 120 labels. An extensive wine cellar with over 300 labels supports private tastings.

Beyond dining, Duniye Spa provides treatments inspired by traditional healing, and daily wellness includes morning yoga, sunset meditation and guided breathing. The house reef offers excellent snorkelling, South Ari Atoll delivers world-class diving, and excursions range from dolphin-watching and whale shark trips to stargazing with a professional telescope.
