Milaidhoo Island
Our Opinion
Milaidhoo Island continues to cement its place among the Maldives' most captivating luxury getaways, and the reasons are clear.
From the Champagne welcome delivered by your personal butler to the lush, manicured grounds, this resort radiates unhurried elegance from the first moment. The villas remain exceptional — spacious, light-filled and beautifully maintained. Their curved organic lines feel both modern and timeless, and the beach villas open seamlessly onto private decks, pools and sand. Water villas now benefit from mature planting that softens their clean geometry. The Ocean Residence has been transformed into a magnificent two-bedroom villa, ideal for families or groups wanting extra space.
Dining is a genuine highlight. Breakfast at Ocean is a daily joy, with the Maldivian breakfast a wonderful nod to local cuisine. The Shoreline Grill delivers excellent seafood served with sand beneath your feet, and the Teppanyaki Chef's Table and Wine Room tastings add welcome variety. Ba'theli remains a must — a magical overwater setting where Spice Route-inspired dishes arrive with precision, and sharks glide beneath the decks at dusk. The Compass Bar does a fine light lunch, with the Impossible Chilli Tacos a standout for plant-based diners, and Lucky's Angelfish Cocktail is complimentary for our guests.
The house reef, a short paddle from the sunrise beach, is in fine condition and teeming with marine life — turtles, reef sharks and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish. The absence of motorised water sports keeps the reef undisturbed and the snorkelling sublime.
With just 50 villas, the facilities are intimate and well-judged. The overwater spa may be modest by some standards, but the treatments — especially the signature massage — are outstanding. The small gym offers glorious tropical lagoon views and stays quiet, with all the essentials.
Service is faultless throughout. Butler-led and instinctively attentive, the team consistently delivers at a level that rivals the very best.
Milaidhoo is a rare find: five-star luxury without a hint of bling, wrapped in genuine Maldivian warmth. It commands a premium, but the soulful, effortless experience keeps it firmly among our favourites — and one we would return to in a heartbeat.
