OBLU SELECT Sangeli
Our Opinion
OBLU SELECT draws a guest mix that leans towards young-to-middle-aged couples, with a scattering of families and older guests joining them. The nationality spread is genuinely international, as with other Atmosphere properties, and it adds to the energy. Sangs Bar pulls a lively crowd, while One Banyan provides a welcome adults-only space during the day.
Sustainable plantation woods feature throughout the construction: teak, pine and oak give the resort a solid, quality feel. Every villa is detached and spacious, with bright soft furnishings adding character. The pool villas attract the most demand, and the two-bedroom suites work well for families or friends travelling together.
The Serenity All Inclusive package is generous, covering a good selection of wines and branded spirits. Dining at this level impresses. Just Grill delivers excellent fish, seafood and meats, while JustWok serves contemporary pan-Asian dishes. Both require advance booking. The Courtyard buffet caters to all tastes with an open kitchen and live cooking stations.
Snorkelling on the inner reef is rewarding. Entry points are clearly marked from the beach near Sangs. The outer reef is accessible via steps halfway along the 580 metre water villa jetty, or directly from some overwater villas. Currents demand care, so stick to the buoyed ropes. Those same currents shift sand around the island, which the resort manages with groynes and a sea wall at the sunset end near the Rock Bar.
The beach can be a little coralline despite regular cleaning. Barefoot is fine for the most part, but flip-flops occasionally help.
Overall this is impressive value for money. Another success from Atmosphere.
