Our Opinion
Angsana Velavaru — aptly named 'Turtle Island' — has a wonderfully serene quality to it. From the moment you step ashore, it feels like the stresses of everyday life simply melt away. The beach villas have been refreshed with a more contemporary look, bringing in soft accents of colour, and several now come with their own private pools.
Across the lagoon sit the InOcean Villas, the Maldives' first standalone overwater villas, set apart from the main island. For anyone looking for genuine peace and space, this is where you want to be. The views are outstanding, and each villa feels wonderfully private.
When it comes to dining, Azzuro is a highlight — an overwater Italian restaurant with real charm. The main restaurant serves a traditional buffet with live cooking stations, keeping to the resort's relaxed barefoot ethos. There is also the pool bar and Funa for evening dining (at a supplement).
The house reef is a real asset. Snorkellers can access it directly from the InOcean Villa jetty — though it is a fair swim — or take the complimentary daily boat trip. On our last visit, we spotted plenty of sharks, turtles and rays.
