Brennia Kottefaru
Our Opinion
Raa Atoll's eastern rim is home to Brennia Kottefaru, a newer resort that benefits from its proximity to the Ifuru domestic airport. Guests arrive either by seaplane direct from Male, or via a brief domestic hop followed by speedboat — both options keep travel time pleasantly manageable.
The island is larger than many in the Maldives, and the resort uses the space well. Accommodation divides into 102 land-based villas (some with pools) and 80 over-water villas, giving a good mix of garden and water views across a sizeable inventory.
On the food front, Lime Restaurant covers the buffet breakfasts and themed dinners, while Manta and Sunset Grill provide a la carte alternatives. La Pella is the pool bar for daytime refreshment, and for those who want something livelier after dark, the Sports Bar and Sing Sing karaoke bar add a less conventional twist.
Wider facilities include an 18-treatment-room spa, a kids' club operating from 9am to 6pm, a fitness centre, games room, and courts for tennis and badminton. Divers can head to the Ocean Dimension centre, and water sports fans will find motorised and non-motorised options plus excursions through Gabbe Water Sports.
We have not yet visited Brennia ourselves — check back for our full island report once we have.

Summary
Brennia Kottefaru sits on a spacious 15-hectare island on the eastern rim of Raa Atoll. Getting there is straightforward: a scenic 45-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport, or a 20-minute domestic flight to Ifuru Airport followed by a brief speedboat hop.
The accommodation line-up spans eight categories and 142 villas in total, from the compact 79 sqm Bougain Villas set beneath the island's canopy to the generous 370 sqm Two-Bedroom Beach Residences, which come with private pools. Interiors use soft mahogany and warm amber tones, and every villa has a king-size bed, a partly open-air bathroom with a rain shower, a private sundeck and modern touches such as complimentary WiFi and a 48-inch flat-screen TV. The 20 Water Villas open straight onto the ocean, while the 30 Beach Pool Villas and 14 Deluxe Beach Pool Villas add private pool dipping with sunset views.
When it comes to dining, the Lime Restaurant serves all-day buffets, Manta focuses on Asian specialities, and Sunset Grill covers grilled meats and sustainable seafood. Lighter bites and drinks are available at La Pella cafe and pool bar, with live sports in the Sports Bar and karaoke at Sing Sing for evening entertainment. The Eternity Spa has 18 treatment rooms offering massages, facials, skincare rituals and beauty treatments in a secluded pavilion.
Beyond that, the house reef is good for snorkelling and there is a freshwater pool overlooking the beach with a kids' wading pool beside it. Ocean Dimension operates a PADI 5-star dive centre with guided trips and equipment hire, and Gabbe Water Sports provides jet skis, parasailing, kayaks, catamaran sailing and excursions. Tennis and badminton courts, a fitness centre, a games room, a kids' club, a resident doctor, a souvenir boutique and a foot spa round out the facilities.
