Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa
Our Opinion
Centara Ras Fushi marks the Thai group's second island in the Maldives, and it is a resort built very much around grown-ups: guests must be 18 or over. The aim is a strong-value all-inclusive package, and a surprising amount has been squeezed onto this compact island, with four restaurants, three bars, a beautiful spa and plenty more besides. We are rather taken with the architecture too, particularly the generous use of curved lines throughout the design.
Dining really does cover the spectrum: Oceans serves themed international and Asian buffets, La Brezza does Italian, Suan Bua offers Thai, and Al Khaimah brings Arabian chargrill from inside a Bedouin tent.
The rooms have a contemporary feel, though they are on the small side and strictly limited to two guests. Island rooms come with a stylish bathroom, while the water villas won us over with their wide, welcoming steps down into the lagoon, which make getting in and out easy even when wearing flippers.
There is no escaping the island's closeness to Male and the industrial activity that surrounds the capital. That said, every room has been thoughtfully positioned to face away from the city, and with the Indian Ocean stretching out in front of you it becomes surprisingly easy to forget how near you are. If you can look past the location, Ras Fushi delivers genuine value for money.
