LVMH, the world's most celebrated luxury goods group, ventured into boutique hotels in 2006 with Cheval Blanc — a name borrowed from one of their own Bordeaux wine estates. The vision was to build a collection of exceptional 'Maisons' in the world's finest locations, defined by uncompromising elegance. The Maldives was always going to be part of that plan.

The signature restaurant, Le 1947 — named after one of the most legendary wine vintages of the 20th century — will satisfy those accustomed to Michelin-star quality.

Is it expensive? Relatively speaking, a night costs more than a Louis Vuitton handbag but less than a bottle of '47 Château Cheval Blanc. And as the saying goes — you can't take it with you.

Set within a secluded lagoon, the resort features 45 loft-style villas, including the Owner's Villa, each blending Maldivian character with clean-lined contemporary design and finishes.
