Filitheyo
Our Opinion
Filitheyo is a medium-sized, traditional Maldivian resort that comes strongly recommended, especially for divers and snorkellers. The house reef is exceptional and has long drawn those who want excellent underwater access straight from the beach.
Accommodation is straightforward but comfortable, totalling 118 villas. The Superior Villas are semi-detached, with ten interconnecting options sold as Family Villas — a practical and often more affordable setup compared to booking two separate villas elsewhere. The detached Deluxe Villas are slightly more spacious and include a bathtub, while the Water Villas are standalone with sundecks overlooking the lagoon. On the south side, the Deluxe Villas sit on a generous stretch of beach, conveniently positioned between the pool and reception. The north-side Superiors also have good beach access, though the strip is a little narrower. The east side has no beach at all and is quite rocky, so walking the full circumference of the island isnt possible. Inland, the vegetation is thick and lush with plenty of palm trees, and its treated weekly to keep mosquitoes in check.
The dive centre, operated by the respected Werner Lau team, is highly professional. The north side has a narrow lagoon with the reef close to shore, delivering fantastic snorkelling without long swims. Sea swimming itself is somewhat limited by the extensive coral in the lagoon, but the swimming pool at the western tip offers a lovely alternative, overlooking the water villas.
The Sunset Restaurant & Bar sits at the same western point — an ideal spot for a morning coffee or an evening cocktail. The buffet restaurant serves food thats well above expectations: well-presented, varied, and genuinely tasty. Theres also an a la carte option in the evenings for a supplementary charge.
The rustic bar is a real highlight, full of character, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed and authentic. But the true standout at Filitheyo is the reef — its simply superb.
