Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa

Overview
Our Opinion
Four Seasons were among the first international names to treat the Maldives as a serious long-term destination, and Kuda Huraa, their founding island, shows exactly why the brand built its reputation here. A 25-minute speedboat ride from Male, on the edge of North Male Atoll, it offers the easiest version of a Four Seasons Maldives escape you can book: no seaplane transfers, no complications, just a short hop across the lagoon.

Dining is one of the island's standout features. Baraabaru, the Indian restaurant set on its own overwater deck, is highly regarded, while Reef Club draws a steady following for its Tuscan-inspired seafood lunches. Cafe Huraa and the Kandu Grill round out the options, and the swim-up bar is made for unhurried afternoons.

The surfing, though, is the headline act. Kuda Huraa sits close to some of the Indian Ocean's most reliable breaks, Tropicsurf coaches every level of guest, and the resort stages an annual Champions Trophy. Beginners learn on gentle lagoon waves; experienced surfers head out on guided trips to the outer breaks, with a seaplane surfari on offer for those chasing quieter, less crowded waves.

Add the island's lush, garden-filled character, 96 villas that all come with plunge pools, and a spa on its own private island reached by dhoni, and you have a genuinely complete package.

The one reservation is the lack of a house reef. Snorkellers will need to take a boat trip, and North Male waters are livelier than the remote atolls. If walking straight off the beach onto a reef is essential, look elsewhere. If you want a polished, reliable all-rounder with excellent food and superb surfing, Kuda Huraa is a hard resort to beat.
Summary
The resort sits in North Malé Atoll, reachable by a 25-minute speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport. Spread across five hectares of lush tropical gardens, the island is dense with bougainvillea, frangipani and hibiscus, giving it the feel of a traditional Maldivian village.

Accommodation comprises 96 thatched beach and overwater villas, all built by local craftsmen using traditional materials. Beach Villas and Pavilions come with private gardens and plunge pools, while Overwater Villas have sundecks, direct lagoon access and their own pools. The two- and three-bedroom Water Suites offer expanded indoor and outdoor living space with glass-walled pools, and the three-bedroom Kuda Estate is the pinnacle, with a 135-square-metre pool winding around the property.

Dining spans four venues. Reef Club serves Tuscan-inspired seafood with ocean views across a sand-floored garden, waterside deck and trattoria-style bar. Baraabaru offers made-to-order Indian dishes on a 25-metre deck over the water, lit by torches. Café Huraa provides Western, Asian and Maldivian dishes across two open-air pavilions with sea and pool views.

The Island Spa is set on its own separate island, reached by a short dhoni ride — the only spa in the Maldives to occupy its own island. Over 30 dive sites lie within 45 minutes of the resort, and the edge-of-atoll location also draws surfers to the resort's own surf school.
