JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa

Overview
Our Opinion
JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa occupies the island of Vagaru in Shaviyani Atoll, one of the quieter northern reaches of the Maldives. The transfer is a 55-minute seaplane flight, and the remoteness is part of the appeal. With only 61 villas spread across the beach and overwater categories, this is a deliberately compact resort where nothing feels crowded.

Every villa includes its own private pool and generous decking, with interiors carrying the clean, polished JW Marriott aesthetic. The emphasis is on personal space, and it shows.

The dining line-up is genuinely impressive for a resort this size. Six restaurants cover the field: Aailaa for all-day international dining, Fiamma for Italian and woodfired pizza, Kaashi for Thai dishes, Hashi for modern Japanese and teppanyaki, and Shio for seafood and prime cuts. Riha, the curry pit, serves regional curries and adds a welcome local accent. Three bars - Horizon, Rum Baan, and Wabi Sabi - offer creative cocktails, while Lounge 18 houses a cigar room and shisha lounge for later in the evening.

The JW Spa has six treatment rooms, a unisex salon, a yoga pavilion, and a gym. The Kids Club by JW comes with a pirate ship, arts and crafts area, and quiet reading nooks, giving families a refined base that still works well for children. Two shared pools round out the facilities.

This resort is a strong fit for couples and families who value the consistency of the JW Marriott brand but want a small-island atmosphere. The Shaviyani location means excellent house reef access and a genuine sense of escape from the busier atolls. A polished, well-rounded property with dining at the forefront.
