Our Opinion

Vilamendhoo occupies a fantastic position in the South Ari Atoll and represents excellent value for money. The style is contemporary, the facilities are extensive, and with nearly 200 rooms the island has a lively feel that suits guests looking for more energy than the quieter, more traditional resorts provide.

The house reef is easily accessible and delivers good snorkelling right from the beach, while the location also puts some of the Maldives' finest dive sites within easy reach. Please note that snorkelling equipment hire is charged separately.

Summary

Vilamendhoo is closed from 1 May 2026 for renovations and is expected to reopen in mid-November 2026.

Situated in the southeast corner of the Ari Atoll, the island is roughly oval in shape stretching nearly 800 metres long and 250 metres across at its widest point. It covers around 5 acres and is a 25-minute seaplane transfer from Male International Airport.

The island is densely covered in tropical vegetation and palms, edged by a ring of white sand and a lively house reef that is excellent for snorkelling.

Facilities and activities are plentiful on both land and water. The surrounding waters are famous for their dive sites, and the on-site Euro-Divers centre offers guided dives, boat-based snorkelling trips and full PADI training programmes.
