Furaveri Maldives
Our Opinion
Fresh from Clare's recent visit, Furaveri Maldives continues to impress as a spacious, natural island resort in Raa Atoll that delivers exactly what it promises: an authentic Maldivian atmosphere without the eye-watering price tag.
The island spans 23 hectares of dense tropical vegetation with its own house reef, and it is big enough to accommodate 169 villas plus seven dining outlets without ever feeling overcrowded. That kind of space is genuinely rare at this price point.
Villas are generously proportioned. Even the lead-in category offers 110 square metres of living space, comfortably beating many so-called five-star competitors. Beach villas are tucked into lush vegetation, while the overwater options sit across two distinct areas off the island. Several categories now include private pools following the resort's expansion, and our sense is that the newer additions have improved the overall offering noticeably.
Dining is impressively varied. Alongside the main buffet restaurant, Jaafaiy, guests can choose from Asian fusion and teppanyaki at Raiyvilla, Mexican dishes at Amigos, vegetarian Indian at Ocean Spice, Mediterranean-inspired plates at Olives & Vines, and seafood and grills at Aqua. A Lebanese restaurant is due to open shortly.
The house reef delivers decent snorkelling along the northern side. We spotted baby and adult reef sharks, turtles and an eagle ray on our last visit — respectable for a resort in this category. Snorkel equipment is complimentary.
Furaveri's real strength is its four-star-plus positioning. It does not try to compete with glossy luxury properties on price or pretension. Instead it focuses on what genuinely matters: space, variety, a natural setting, and warm service. The atmosphere around the main pool and bar area is social and lively — great if you enjoy a bit of energy, though worth flagging if total seclusion is what you are after.
For travellers seeking a genuine Maldivian stay without stretching into ultra-premium territory, Furaveri is an easy, confident recommendation.

Furaveri is in Raa Atoll, a 23-hectare island resort in the Maldives, reached by seaplane or by domestic flight followed by a speedboat transfer. A seaplane is the preferred option, and the resort has its own dedicated lounge at the seaplane terminal.
Accommodation now totals 169 private villas, having expanded from the original 107 after development of the island's southern area. Beach villas sit within lush vegetation, while water villas are arranged in two separate offshore locations. Some categories include private pools, the villas are unusually spacious for the price point, and multi-room Residences are also available.
Dining is spread across Jaafaiy, the main buffet restaurant, plus Raiyvilla for Asian fusion and teppanyaki, Amigos for Mexican dishes, Ocean Spice for vegetarian Indian cuisine, Olives & Vines for Mediterranean-inspired plates, Aqua for seafood and grills, and a soon-to-open Lebanese restaurant at the end of the arrival jetty.
