Baglioni Resort Maldives opened its doors in 2019 on Maagau, a lush island in Dhaalu Atoll, and it pairs Italian hospitality with an easy, unhurried take on island life.

First impressions are strong. The island has mature tropical planting, soft white sand and a real sense of natural beauty. The villas are modern but elegant, with a lighter, more restrained design than you find at many resorts in the Maldives. Beach and overwater villas alike are roomy and comfortable, and the overwater options make the most of their lagoon setting with an easy flow between inside and out.

The house reef is one of the real draws here. It is impressive and, crucially, simple to reach from the beach. Snorkelling is excellent: vivid coral, plenty of fish, and regular encounters with reef sharks and larger marine life. There is good variety on both sides of the island, which makes the reef a genuine highlight and a sound reason to put Baglioni on your shortlist.

Dining is another strength, with Italian influence running right through it. The signature Italian restaurant is refined and the cooking well executed, while Yama, the overwater Japanese restaurant, offers something quite different in a lovely setting. Food quality across the board is good, and although the wine list is fairly compact, it holds some well-priced premium bottles. The team is clearly committed to pushing the dining experience further.

Service during our stay was warm, friendly and attentive throughout, with the kind of genuine hospitality you would expect from the Baglioni name. From arrival to departure, the team set a welcoming, relaxed tone, with thoughtful touches and a real willingness to go the extra mile.

The facilities sit well with the size and character of the resort: a boutique spa, gym, tennis court and a small kids' club. The overall feel is intimate and easy-going rather than sprawling, which will suit guests after a quieter, more relaxed island stay.

Baglioni Resort Maldives works best for travellers who want a beautiful island, superb snorkelling and a refined yet relaxed atmosphere, with Italian hospitality as a point of difference. It is not trying to compete at the very top of the Maldivian luxury market, but it delivers a well-rounded and genuinely enjoyable experience, and we recommend it highly.

Set on the island of Maagau in Dhaalu Atoll, Baglioni Maldives Luxury All-Inclusive combines Italian elegance with warm Maldivian hospitality. The resort is accessible by seaplane or domestic flight with a short speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport.

The island is lush and beautifully maintained, with soft white sands and mature vegetation. The house reef is exceptional, with complimentary snorkelling equipment provided and excellent marine life easily accessible from the beach. Non-motorised watersports such as canoeing and paddleboarding are included, along with cooking classes and guided marine activities with the resident biologist.

The Baglioni Spa offers yoga, meditation and fitness sessions alongside Ayurvedic treatments. Evening entertainment includes DJ sets and outdoor cinema screenings. The Kids' Club features arts and crafts, sports, pool games and a Nature Academy, ensuring younger guests are well catered for.

Accommodation comprises 85 villas, split between beach and overwater settings, many with private pools. All villas include a king-size bed, living area, air conditioning and direct access to either sand or sea. Bathrooms feature Acqua di Parma amenities, double vanities and bathrobes. Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities and a stocked mini bar are included as standard.

Dining is varied and Italian-influenced. Taste is the main buffet restaurant serving international dishes across breakfast, lunch and dinner, with themed Habibi and Agra nights. La Limonaia offers refined Southern Italian and Mediterranean cuisine in a relaxed beachfront setting. Yama serves sushi, sashimi and Asian specialities, with teppanyaki available on request at additional cost. Fuego features sunset grills on an Ofyr cooker, with premium options such as Wagyu and lobster available for a supplement. The Pizza Boat delivers freshly baked pizzas poolside. Mirto Pool Bar serves light lunches and drinks throughout the day, while the Wine Cellar hosts tastings and private dinners with a curated Italian and international wine selection.
