Our Opinion

VARU by Atmosphere is the fifth Maldives resort from the locally-run Atmosphere group, and the third in North Male Atoll. The name in Dhivehi conveys strength, resilience, and abundance. Those qualities serve it well in a competitive entry-level 5-star market.

All villas are detached and spacious. The two-bedroom interleading suites, some with private pools, work particularly well for families with older children or for adults travelling together.

The VARU Plan all-inclusive package sits between OBLU Select at Sangeli and Atmosphere Kanifushi in scope: structured, comprehensive, and fairly priced. Food quality is good and the service is warm without being stuffy. Four restaurants include three a la carte options, with the overwater Mediterranean seafood restaurant NU standing out as a highlight.

There is no house reef, but the resort offers unlimited complimentary twice-daily snorkelling trips to nearby reefs. Snorkelling gear is included for the duration of your stay.

Atmosphere has a proven track record of opening resorts on time and to a high standard, which is no small feat in the Maldives. The vegetation has matured well since our 2019 visit, and we look forward to returning.

VARU by Atmosphere sits in North Male Atoll, about 40 minutes from Male by speedboat across 38 kilometres of ocean. It is the fifth Maldives opening for the Atmosphere group, adding to an already strong local portfolio.

The resort is 4.5-star and offers all-inclusive stays. All villas are detached and spacious, with two-bedroom interconnecting options available for families or groups travelling together.

Four restaurants and two bars cover the dining scene, including an all-day restaurant, a Maldivian speciality venue, a seafood and grill option, and the overwater Mediterranean seafood restaurant NU.

Facilities include a main pool, dive school, water sports centre, spa, gym, kids club, and excursions. Snorkelling gear is complimentary for the whole stay, and unlimited twice-daily snorkelling trips are included for all guests.
